Update on BPA to BPS Receipts
Well we tried!
We, like some other businesses, switched to BPA-free receipts.
THE BAD NEWS IS, studies were done last year which revealed that most all products claiming to be BPA-free have replaced it with BPS which is just as toxic – as are all chemicals in the bisphenol series!
So we are trying to find a non-toxic substitute for the BPs but it could take a while until paper manufacturers of the thermal paper that modern register systems require, provide one.
Meanwhile we’ve alerted cashiers and all workers about the BPS, and suggested gloves, more frequent hand-washing; and putting receipts in the trash rather than the recycling.
We encourage our customers to avoid keeping their receipts any longer than necessary and to handle all receipts as little as possible. After handling your receipts, it’s a good idea to wash your hands.
Bisphenols are hormone disrupters and can be absorbed through the skin.
